Cabin Chaos, Curious Critters & The Great Noodle Rescue.

Life on the farm has settled into what we can only describe as our version of "normal"... which, as it turns out, is anything but normal.

The cabin makeover has officially begun!

Gone are the darker timber walls, and in comes a fresh whitewashed interior that's already transformed the space. It's amazing what a coat of paint can do. The cabin suddenly feels brighter, bigger, and far more like the peaceful bush retreat we'd imagined. Now comes the dangerous part... decorating.

You know, the "We'll just buy a few cushions" phase that somehow ends with decorative baskets, throws, candles, and all those little things you never knew you needed until Pinterest convinced you otherwise.

The vision is slowly coming together, and we're incredibly excited to see it all finished.

Meanwhile, our craft room...

Well... let's not call it a craft room anymore.

It's currently known as The Box Room.

Boxes everywhere.

Craft supplies... somewhere.

Creativity... temporarily buried beneath what feels like an endless mountain of unpacked boxes.

We keep confidently saying, "We'll unpack those tomorrow," but tomorrow has a habit of arriving with fresh interruptions involving wildlife or generators.

Speaking of interruptions...

Bruno continues to take his self-appointed role as Head of Farm Security extremely seriously.

This week alone he has:

- Chased squirrels with the determination of a dog who genuinely believes today is the day he'll finally catch one.

- Barked ferociously at the resident zebra, who simply looked back at him with the expression of someone watching a toddler having a meltdown.

- Alerted us in the middle of the night to a very large kudu standing quietly along the fence line.

To be fair, that last one earned him plenty of praise. It's reassuring knowing someone takes the night shift so seriously... even if it means the rest of us are suddenly awake too.

Then came the family crisis.

Bruno's beloved toy, Noodle, disappeared.

Now, if you've ever had a dog with a favourite toy, you'll understand the severity of the situation.

The house was searched.

The garden was searched.

Every possible hiding place was investigated.

For a day and a half, Noodle was officially declared Missing in Action.

Then... against all odds... the prodigal toy was found.

The reunion was emotional.

Well... for Bruno anyway.

We were simply relieved we no longer had to conduct a full-scale search operation for a slightly chewed piece of rubber.

Out in the bush, our little waterhole has become the hottest destination in the neighbourhood.

Every day feels like we're watching our own private wildlife documentary from the comfort of our home.

Our regular VIP visitors are a delightful family of warthogs—Mom, Dad, and their three adorable little piglets—who have completely stolen our hearts. Watching them trot in with their tails sticking straight up never gets old.

Every visit reminds us why we chose this life.

Then came our latest lesson in off-grid living...

Solar power.

Everyone tells you how wonderful solar is.

What they don't always mention is the learning curve... and occasionally that learning curve involves standing around scratching your heads while the batteries politely inform you they've had enough.

After plenty of problem-solving, a little determination, and some teamwork, we found ourselves jump-starting the generator using a car battery.

There may have been sparks.

There may have been a few nervous glances.

But eventually...

The generator purred.

The batteries charged.

The lights came back on.

And for a brief moment, we felt like qualified bush engineers.

Whether we actually knew what we were doing remains open for debate!

Every week brings another lesson, another story, another unexpected challenge, and another reminder that this life is wonderfully unpredictable.

The cabin is slowly becoming our home.

The wildlife continues to provide front-row entertainment.

Bruno faithfully patrols the perimeter with unwavering enthusiasm.

And we're collecting memories far faster than we're unpacking boxes.

Honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way.

Until next time...

May your generators start on the first try, your favourite toys always be found, and your decorating budget stay slightly under control... although we're not making any promises on that last one! 🌿🐗🦓🐕
